Bio 14 : Air Pollution

1. Air pollution is caused by the presence of pollutants in the air which are harmful to life and the environment.

2.Sources of pollution are as follows
a. Burning
~Rubbish
~Forest
~solid waste

b. Factories and industries
~Burning of fossil fuels such as petroleum, diesel, and gas in factories and power station.
~Agcricultural industries that use agrochemical such as fertiliser , pesticides, insecticides and herbicides.

c. Motor vechicle
~Release harmful gases in car exhaust fumes.

3.Effect negative:
~increases in carbon dioxida (greenhouse gas) in the atmosphere causes greenhouse effect.
~sulphur dioxida and nitrogen are acidic gases which dissolve in water vapour can cause acid rain.
~the pollutant and smoke cause respiratory diseases such as bronchitis, lung cancer, asthma.
~pollutants irritate the eyes , cause skin diseases and conjunctivities.
