S3 Natural and Artificial Passive immunity

Natural Passive Immunity
Natural Passive Immunity is acquired when a baby is still in her mother's womb.
Antibodies are passed into baby's body through placenta.
After birth, the baby can still acquire passive immunity from her mother through breast-feeding.
Mother's milk contains antibodies.

Artificial Passive Immunity
Artificial Passive Immunity isacquired by injecting antiserum.
Antiserum consists of serum and antibodies.
Example: Antibodies used for combating tetanus and diphtheria used to be cultured in horses and injected into humans.
